Carbon monoxide
Definizione
- 1. Carbon monoxide, (CO), a highly toxic, colorless, odorless, flammable gas produced industrially for use in the manufacture of numerous organic and inorganic chemical products. Carbon monoxide is also present in the exhaust gases of internal-combustion engines and furnaces as a result of incomplete conversion of carbon or carbon-containing fuels to carbon dioxide, and is a major air pollutant. (Brittanica). 2. Carbon monoxide (chemical formula CO) is a poisonous, flammable gas that is colorless, odorless, tasteless, and slightly less dense than air. Carbon monoxide consists of one carbon atom and one oxygen atom connected by a triple bond. It is the simplest carbon oxide. In coordination complexes, the carbon monoxide ligand is called carbonyl. It is a key ingredient in many processes in industrial chemistry. (Wikipedia)
