  • 1. Any of a set of lines used to describe the orderly arrangement of atoms in a crystal. If each atom or group of atoms is represented by a dot, or lattice point, and these points are connected, the resulting lattice may be divided into a number of identical blocks, or unit (Britannica). 2. A straight line about which a body or a geometric figure rotates or may be supposed to rotate (Merriam-Webster). 3. A fixed line on a graph used to show the position of a point (Cambridge dictionary).
