Spin coating

Définition

  • 1. A coating method for applying a thin (<1 μm thickness) cover to flat substrates where an excess amount of coating solution (in a volatile solvent) is placed on the substrate, which is then rotated at high speed (8000 rpm) for approximately 30 s in order to spread the solution by centripetal force. The solvent then evaporates, leaving a thin film. (Chemical Methods Ontology, http://purl.obolibrary.org/obo/CHMO_0001472). 2. Spin coating is a broadly-used quick approach, for the deposition of the thin uniform coating onto the surface of the substrate. The coating solution is dropped onto the substrate surface, uniform layer of solution is spread onto the surface by the high action spinning. (Science Direct, Supercritical Fluid Science and Technology, 2013). 3. A technique used to deposit uniform thin films onto a substrate (e.g., metal or glass) by spinning at high speeds a solution (paste) of the material onto the surface. (TIB, Voc4Cat)
