Paramagnetic

Määritelmä

  • 1. Substances having a magnetic susceptibility greater than 0 are paramagnetic. They are drawn into a magnetic field. (IUPAC). 2. Kind of magnetism characteristic of materials weakly attracted by a strong magnet, named and extensively investigated by the British scientist Michael Faraday beginning in 1845. (Britannica). 3. A paramagnetic substance, such as aluminium, is weakly attracted to a magnet (Cambridge Dictionary). 4. Paramagnetic refers to the property of certain nuclei, such as carbon-13, which have unpaired p-electrons and generate high anisotropic magnetic fields that reinforce the external magnetic field. This shielding effect increases with decreasing electronic excitation energy and covers a range of hundreds of ppm depending on the electronic configuration of the nuclei. (ScienceDirect, Progress in Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Spectroscopy Volume 35, Issue 4, 1 December 1999, Pages 341-357). 5. Paramagnetic materials have a small, positive susceptibility to magnetic fields, and are very weakly attracted by an externally applied magnetic field. (https://www.greenwoodmagnetics.com). 5. A paramagnetic substance, such as aluminium, is weakly attracted to a magnet (Cambridge Dictionary).
