Hot isostatic pressing

Definición

  • 1. The process of pressing a powder under a gas or liquid at elevated temperatures so that pressure is transmitted equally in all directions. (Chemical Methods Ontology). 2. Consolidation is often achieved by hot isostatic pressing, wrapping the pressed powder in an envelope of steel or glass, and heating it in a hot inert gas at high pressure. The consolidated metal is then worked into finished parts. (Brittanica). 3. Hot isostatic pressing (HIP) is a manufacturing process, used to reduce the porosity of metals and increase the density of many ceramic materials. This improves the material's mechanical properties and workability. (Wikipedia)
