- 1. A solid substance with a structure that contains patterns and repetition but is not fully symmetrical (= exactly matching) like a crystal (Cambridge dictionary). 2. A body of solid material that resembles a crystal in being composed of repeating structural units but that incorporates two or more unit cells into a quasiperiodic structure (Merriam-Webster dictionary). 3. A quasiperiodic crystal, or quasicrystal, is a structure that is ordered but not periodic. A quasicrystalline pattern can continuously fill all available space, but it lacks translational symmetry.
